Nikolai Bockholt: Cloud Rendering FTW [Tech + Research]

Cloud rendering has been around for some years already but it was used mostly to render still images and video sequences faster than on a local 3D workstation. Due to technical progress in the last few years (like webRTC for low latency real time data transfer, higher bandwidth on the user side through broadband and 5G, etc.) it is now possible to run interactive real time rendering in the cloud and go beyond the boundaries of client devices like smartphones, tablets or HMDs. With this it is possible to render multi-million polygon 3D scenes with raytracing and much more cool stuff on the fly and send the experience to users regardless of their device. In my talk I explain the foundation of this technology, opportunities and barriers.
