Dark Patterns are malevolent design solutions that manipulate a user to perform unintended actions. So far, XR dark patterns are not yet observable in the wild due to the novelty of the medium. In my presentation, I want to discuss the manipulative potential XR offers to such malicious designs. Also, I will provide first insights into our latest study in which we investigated with 20 experts from research and industry how XR dark patterns might look like, and what effects they might have on users. I will conclude my presentation with a discussion of potential mitigation and regulatory strategies.
